How was the USA governed?

The system of US governance is complex and its constituent parts include both central and state governments all of which fall under the control of the US constitution. It is worth while spending a few moments understanding how this system of government works to help your studies later in the unit. The image shows sheep brought in to graze on the lawns of the White House during the First World War to reduce groundskeeping costs; their wool being auctioned off to raise money for the Red Cross. The sheep stayed at the White House until 1920.
